ARTICLE I - ORGANIZATION NAME

Section 1:

The organization name is the Society for Technical Communication. This organization is available for all students of the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

ARTICLE II - ORGANIZATION PURPOSE

Section 1:

The purpose of this organization is:

  • To help build professional development for all students.

  • To immerse students in the industry through events, conferences, presentations and meetings.

ARTICLE III - AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION

Section 1:

Amending the Constitution:

This constitution must be amended by a two-thirds majority of the voting members present at the meeting.

Section 2:

Process of Amending:

  • An amendment to the constitution can be submitted orally and seconded by a voting member. The process should follow due process procedures.

  • The amendment may be submitted and approved within the same meeting period.

  • Amendment voting will be executed using an oral vote.

ARTICLE I - MEMBERSHIP

Section 1:

Qualification for Membership:

Any person interested in STC, technical communication, or professional development is welcome to join.

Section 2:

Membership Dues:

Each member will be responsible for paying the National STC membership. 

Section 3:

Definition of Voting Membership:

Member must be a paid member to vote or be elected to hold an office.

ARTICLE II - EXECUTIVE BOARD OFFICERS

Section 1:            Each officer is responsible for the duties outlined below.

President:

Lead meetings and guide discussion.
Encourage and excite members to grow professionally.
Advise and delegate fellow officers of duties, plans, etc.

Vice President:

Assist the president as needed if unable to perform his/her duties.
Create member initiative

Secretary:

Record meeting minutes, or find a replacement to take minutes.
Correspond with members.
Use the STC e-mail account.

Treasurer:

Manage the accounts.Prepare the budget.

Webmaster

Maintain STC website.

Activities Coordinator

Make arrangements for events on and off campus.

ARTICLE III - VOTING -- ELECTION PROCESS

Section 1:

Schedule for Officer Elections

  • October: Nominations.

  • November: Voting and Elections.

1.  All elected officers must be paid members of STC.

2.  Each nominee must distribute a written statement by e-mail, including prior experience and goals for the coming year. 

3.  Each nominee must make a short speech at the meeting prior to taking a vote.

  • Voting is conducted as secret ballot.

C.  February: Observation and cooperation to facilitate transition.

D.   March: Transition - new officers take over. 

ARTICLE IV - COMMITTEES

Section 1:

The following are established STC committees. Each active member is asked to participate.

  • Budget:  Help create budget for the coming year.

  • Conference/Special Events:  Special Event coordination.

  • Fundraising: Organize and run events throughout the year. 

  • Marketing:  Promotion of all STC related events.
